I'm sure you must've learnt a foreign language in school or college. Or you must've thought of learning, at least once in your life. You know that it is probably good for you. But still don't know, how exactly? The way we've been taught in school makes us gauge every decision when it comes to learning something new. All we care about is, how will it 1. give us money? or 2. respect in the society? The good thing about language learning is that it not only provides us with a better career and image in the society, but majorly contributes to better lifestyle and well-being. When learnt properly, the language learning process becomes such a rich experience.
When you start learning a new language, the following things happen:-
your linguistic abilities get worked upon, increasing overall efficiency in communication
your confidence boosts, having an edge over others, personally and professionally
you get a cool life skill on your hands
you start appreciating new cultures, mannerisms and patterns of thinking
you embrace more people in your life, hence, making new (global) friends
your networking skills improve, leading to better career prospects
you look at life with a fresh perspective, as a new born with newly learnt words
you start enjoying a variety of cinema, music and art, for example: shows like 'Emily in Paris', 'Money Heist', 'Munich: The Edge of War', etc.
your opportunities to study and work abroad open up drastically
your standard of living and overall quality of life tend to improve
you become more capable of earning multiple times your current income, etc.
I can go on and on, but you get the idea. Language learning is not just about immediately earning money after getting a diploma in the language. It's about communication skills, friends, travel, life standards, culture, personality development and utilization of human capabilities. It opens up doors to not just career, but life. You come out of your shell and witness the world as a whole new person. It is a life altering experience, with so many benefits, it is almost too good to be true.
Having learnt 4 foreign languages, the CEO of GSS Foreign Languages Institute, Mr. Deepak Arora, says, "It has been one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. Being able to travel around the world; speaking their language, connecting with natives on a deeper level; making new, lifelong friends; understanding the different ways of life and integrating some of them into my own. Oh, and the movies, the songs, the TV shows. I have always had better taste than my friends and my colleagues. I recommend everyone to learn at least one foreign language dedicatedly and see the changes in their lives."
